The Spain-Africa Business Council, which gives rise to the Iberoafrican Canarias Forum, was created in 2022 with the signature of a protocol establishing an open, multilateral forum between Spanish and African business. Its purpose is to position the Canary Islands as a tricontinental hub between Europe, Africa and the Americas.
Our role from the outset
IBC Spain has supported the platform since it was set up: the 2023 forum at Casa África, the meeting held at CEOE headquarters in Madrid in July 2024 — where the continuity protocol was signed — and the launch in 2026 of the permanent working groups on energy and water, vocational training and trade.
2025: consolidation
In 2025 the work focused on consolidating what had been built: streamlining the Council’s operating structure through the creation of the IBAFCAN brand, strengthening relations with the continent’s priority countries, and opening a new line of work — positioning the Canary Islands as a platform between Latin America and Africa as well.
Lines of action
Economic diplomacy, business missions to key markets — Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal, Guinea — and the production of strategic market knowledge.
