August brought training in Tenerife, two events on the same day in Las Palmas and a conversation about the Sahel that deserves to be heard in full. This is what the month held for IBC Spain.
Training for more than 20 companies in southern Tenerife with Canarias Expande
On 8 July our director, Navin Khemlani, travelled to Tenerife to run a session on the logistical, tax and commercial aspects of selling from the Canary Islands to mainland Spain and to other destinations, as part of a Canarias Expande event organised by the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Chamber of Commerce with the Canary Islands Government’s Department of Economy, Industry, Trade and Self-Employment and the Círculo de Empresarios del Sur de Tenerife.
More than twenty companies from the south of the island took part. Every Canary Islands company that discovers exporting is not the preserve of large firms bears out the work we have been doing since 2009.
Two events in Las Palmas: PROEXCA and the Canary Islands-Mauritania round table
On 23 July we attended the PROEXCA Internationalisation Forum, held at the Hotel Cristina and chaired by the deputy minister for Economy and Internationalisation, Gustavo González de Vega, before more than a hundred representatives of Canary Islands business, where the Planes Sectoriales 360 were presented.
That same day we went to the Canary Islands-Mauritania executive round table “Electricity for industrialisation”, organised by Mauritania Gateway. The Société Mauritanienne d’Électricité set out to Canary Islands business leaders its needs in distribution grid modernisation, industrial desalination and green hydrogen projects.
Two events and a single message: the southern Atlantic frontier, from Morocco to Mauritania, is consolidating as a natural space for industrial collaboration for the archipelago.
Voces de África: Dagauh Komenan and the Sahel seen from the Canary Islands
A new episode of Voces de África with Dagauh Komenan, an Ivorian historian with a doctorate from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and author of La Françafrique vista desde el sur and El Sahel occidental ante los ODS. He explains why the Canary Islands should be a laboratory for cooperation and not only a migration barrier, and what it is like to live with Africa two hundred kilometres off the coast.
Ghana in focus
The seventh Ghana Investment & Trade Week was held in Accra from 7 to 9 July, the largest investment and trade forum in West Africa: more than a hundred exhibitors, delegations from over thirty countries and more than a thousand B2B meetings, under the banner “Powering Ghana’s 24-Hour Economy”. Ghana is the third-largest economy in ECOWAS and hosts the secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area.
